Center files amicus brief in Judicial Merit Selection Case

On Wednesday August 7, 2013, the Center filed an amicus brief in Dobson v. State of Arizona urging the Supreme Court to accept jurisdiction. The case is challenging the legislature's attempt to do what the voters rejected last election and change the procedure for selecting judges.  Because that procedure is set forth in constitution, the legislature is without power to change it unless it first submits the amendment to the voters.

Center Wins Lawsuit to Stop Trash Burning Power Plant

On July 17, 2013, the Arizona Superior Court overturned a decision by the Arizona Corporation commission that would have given renewable energy credit to a trash incinerator via a waiver or pilot project.  The judge ruled that the Commision "erred and abused its discretion" in granting Mohave Electric Cooperative renewable energy credit for a proposed waste incinerator near Surprise, Arizona.
