The Arizona Center for the Law in the Public Interest is a nonprofit public interest law firm dedicated to a just, prosperous, and environmentally secure future for Arizona. Since 1974, we’ve successfully used the legal system to protect the rights of all citizens and to hold the government and corporations accountable when they violate the law.

History of Success

We do not hesitate to stand up to powerful economic and governmental interests when necessary to fight for the well-being of all Arizonans. We also advocate on behalf of underserved populations to ensure their needs are not overlooked.

We have successfully litigated more than 100 cases, safeguarding Arizonans’ civil rights, improving our collective quality of life, and protecting our state’s public lands and natural resources. Through the decades, we have:

• Secured billions of dollars in crucial funding for public schools.
• Fought on behalf of more than 15,000 foster children in State care.
• Defended Arizona’s expansion of AHCCCS, ensuring coverage for hundreds of thousands of people and saving countless lives.
• Negotiated on behalf of environmental interests for stringent groundwater protections.
• Enforced the rights of all Arizonans to breathe clean air.
• Won a landmark case establishing the public trust doctrine in Arizona, protecting navigable rivers for future generations.
• Advocated for consumers in rate cases before the Arizona Corporation Commission.
• Protected employment rights for women, the disabled, and others.

• Fought hard for our democracy, protecting the voting rights of Arizonans and the right of the people to make laws.
